Before We Talk About Flowers, Let’s Talk About You.

Before We Talk About Flowers, Let's Talk About You.
Because the most important part of your wedding isn't the centerpiece.

There's a particular moment in wedding planning when everything starts to feel very real.
Maybe you've just gotten engaged. Maybe you've already booked the venue. Maybe you've spent the last three evenings comparing photographs of flowers you didn't even know existed six months ago.
And somewhere between the excitement, the Pinterest boards, and the growing number of browser tabs, you begin wondering what it would actually be like to work with a wedding planner.
What happens during that first conversation? What are you supposed to know? Do you need a budget? A venue? A complete vision?
And, perhaps most importantly, are we going to ask you to describe your wedding aesthetic in three words?
Relax. There's no entrance exam.
At A Very Lovely Wedding, our first conversation begins with something much more interesting than flowers.
It begins with you.

First, We Want to Know the People Getting Married

Engaged couple enjoying a relaxed, effortless conversation over coffee at an outdoor café table.

Yes, we're going to ask about your wedding.
The date, the location, the guest count, and where you are in the planning process all matter. They're important pieces of the picture.
But they aren't the whole picture.
We want to know what you're looking forward to. What matters most to you. What you've been dreaming about, and what you're not particularly interested in.
Maybe you want an intimate celebration where everyone feels like family. Maybe you're imagining a room full of people, music, incredible food, and a dance floor that doesn't empty until someone turns the lights on.
Maybe you're not sure what you want yet.
That's perfectly fine, too.
A wedding doesn't need to arrive at our first conversation fully formed.
We're much more interested in understanding the people behind it than in seeing how many decisions they've already made.
Because two couples can choose the same venue, the same flowers, and the same color palette and still want completely different experiences.
And that's exactly how it should be.

Tell Us What's Keeping You Up at Night

Every couple approaches wedding planning differently.
Some arrive with spreadsheets, color-coded folders, and an impressive understanding of catering minimums.
Others arrive with a wedding date, a general idea, and a look that says, We have absolutely no idea where to begin.
We welcome both.
During our consultation, we want to understand what's working for you and what isn't.
Perhaps you're enjoying the creative decisions but finding the logistics overwhelming. Maybe you've already booked several vendors and aren't sure what should happen next. Or perhaps you simply don't have the time to manage another major project alongside everything else in your life.
And sometimes, the concern isn't about the planning at all.
It's about expectations. Family opinions. Trying to make everyone happy while remembering that you're the ones getting married.
You can tell us that, too.
You don't need to present a perfectly organized version of your wedding planning experience.
We're not grading your progress.
We're trying to understand where we can make a meaningful difference.

We Don't Believe Every Couple Needs the Same Kind of Planning

Here's something worth knowing before we meet:
We're not interested in convincing you that you need more services than your wedding actually requires.
Some couples want a professional involved from the very beginning, helping them navigate the entire planning and design experience.
Others have already made significant progress and would benefit from a planning partner to provide guidance and help bring the remaining pieces together.
And some couples genuinely enjoy planning their own wedding. They've selected their vendors, made their decisions, and simply want to know that when the day arrives, someone experienced will be there to manage it.
Those are different needs.
And they deserve different conversations.
At A Very Lovely Wedding, our services include Full Planning & Design, Wedding Planning Partnership, and Wedding Management.
The purpose of our initial consultation isn't to place every couple into the same package.
It's to understand what kind of support makes sense for you.
Because the right planning experience should fit your wedding, not the other way around.

This Is a Conversation, Not a Sales Presentation

Wedding planner and couple laughing together across a table during an effortless, friendly consultation.

We know the word consultation can sound a little formal.
You might imagine a conference table, a lengthy presentation, and someone enthusiastically explaining why you absolutely cannot get married without twelve months of professional planning.
That's not quite our style.
Our complimentary consultation is an opportunity for us to get acquainted, talk about your wedding, explore your needs, and see whether working together feels like the right fit.
You're welcome to ask questions.
In fact, we encourage them.
Ask about our approach. Ask how we work with couples. Ask what makes our services different. Tell us what you're concerned about.
And if you don't know what to ask, that's okay.
We'll help guide the conversation.
We also believe choosing a wedding planner is about more than qualifications and experience, although both certainly matter.
You're inviting someone into a meaningful chapter of your life. You'll be sharing ideas, navigating decisions, and trusting that person to understand what matters to you.
There should be confidence.
There should be mutual understanding.
And preferably, you should feel comfortable enough to laugh together once in a while.
Wedding planning is serious work.
That doesn't mean every conversation has to be serious.

Beautiful Is Important. Feeling Like Yours Is Essential.

We love a beautifully designed wedding.
The textures. The lighting. The thoughtful details. The way everything comes together to create an atmosphere that feels intentional.
Absolutely.
But beautiful is only part of the equation.
We want to understand how you want your wedding to feel.
Do you want an evening that feels relaxed and intimate? A celebration with energy from the moment guests arrive? A timeless, elegant gathering? Something wonderfully unexpected?
There isn't one correct answer.
And we're not here to impose our personal preferences on your celebration.
Our role is to listen, understand, and bring professional perspective to the vision you're creating.
Sometimes that means helping you refine an idea.
Sometimes it means presenting possibilities you hadn't considered.
And occasionally, it means asking a thoughtful question before you commit to something simply because you've seen it at seventeen other weddings.
Trends can be lovely.
But your wedding should still look and feel like you.

So, What Should You Bring to Our First Conversation?

Yourself.
Preferably your partner, too.
A few details about your wedding are helpful, of course. If you've selected a date or venue, wonderful. If you have an estimated guest count or a budget range in mind, those are useful starting points.
If you've already begun planning, we'll want to hear about your progress.
And if you're still figuring things out, we can begin there.
You don't need a completed mood board, a binder full of contracts, or a five-year strategic plan for your wedding.
Although if you have the binder, we're not judging.
We might even admire the tabs.
What matters most is that you arrive ready to have an open conversation about the celebration you're hoping to create and the support you're looking for.
That's where a good planning relationship begins.
Not with a centerpiece.
Not with a color palette.
Not even with a timeline.
With understanding.

Let's Start With Hello

Your wedding will eventually involve plenty of decisions, conversations, and carefully considered details.
But the first step toward working with A Very Lovely Wedding is refreshingly simple.
We talk.
We get to know you, learn about your plans, and explore how our experience might support the wedding you're envisioning.
No pressure to have everything figured out.
No expectation that you already know exactly what you need.
Just a genuine conversation about a very important day and the people at the center of it.
Because before we plan your wedding, we'd like to meet the people we're planning it for.
